OBITUARY Mr. W.T.Richmond. died 1927/8.
From Ripon Gazette Jan 1928.
A gloom was cast over Kirby Malzeard & district on Thursday on the receipt of the news of the death of a well known resident. Mr.W.T.Richmond. [Willie]. at the Ripon Cottage Hospital after only a brief illness. Mr Richmond. took a prominent part in the activities of Kirkby Malzeard and the surrounding district. He was trustee for the local Mechanics Institute, rendering yeoman service in conducting all its undertakings. He had been a keen sportsman and was a useful member of the local cricket team.
His business as a builder’s joiner brought him into touch with nearly every resident, and also gained him a large circle of friends amongst the farming community by his periodical visits with the threshing machines. He was held in high esteem, being a considerate master and a conscientious workman, and his willing service will be missed.
Mr Richmond was a keen churchman, and a regular worshipper at St. Andrews Church, for which during his life he served in a threefold manner – chorister, bellringer and church warden. he was also a member of the local lodge of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows, in which he held several offices.
To men like the late Mr. Richmond, village communities owe a great deal, and his death at the age of 41years, not only makes a gap but also removes a man of a sunny disposition and a cheerful giver.
He was the only son of Mrs. C. Richmond. [Caroline- see below]
& Mr T. Richmond.
The last rites were performed at St. Andrews Church, Kirkby Malzeard on Monday . The rev. F.Hewitt [Vicar of Mickley] officiated, assisted by the Rev. T.H.V. Hartley [of Kirkby Malzeard]
