In the early 20th century woodsmen were employed to landscape the gardens and work on the trees. Here we see Robert Clarkson and his men.

In 1996 Peter & Caroline Roberts bought the house and created The Himalayan Garden & Sculpture Park. They have donated the estate to a charitable trust.
The garden has grown and today it is widely considered to be the North’s largest collection of rhododendrons, azaleas and magnolias, there are nearly 20,000 plants including some 1,400 rhododendron varieties, 250 azalea varieties and 150 different magnolias and a 20-acre arboretum.
