Report of funeral of George Leathley in Ripon Observer April 1899.
On the afternoon of Easter Tuesday there was laid to rest in the quiet little churchyard of Grewelthorpe, the mortal remains of George Leathley, who died on the preceding Saturday aged 76. Of a genial and active dispositition, Mr Leathley was known and respected by the inhabitants of the neighbourhood for miles around, and has closely been associated with the village of Grewelthorpe all his life. He was a staunch churchman and dearly loved the church at Grewelthorpe in which he was the first to be married. He had been in failing health for some time past , but about 10 days before his death he was seized with a severe bout of influenza, to which he succumbed. The funeral was very largely attended by relatives and friends from a considerable distance assembled with those from the neighbourhood to pay their last tribute of respect to the deceased. Mr Leathley leaves a large grown up family to mourn him.
